The duplex was purchased by a retired couple and their daughter, with the goal of renovating each unit to meet the needs of everyone. On the ground floor (photos not available), the space was arranged with three bedrooms to accommodate the young couple and their three children. The kitchen was slightly enlarged and combined with the dining area to create a more functional and welcoming space. A family room was also added in the basement.
On the upper floor, a more significant reconfiguration was carried out, creating an opening toward the backyard that is visible from the apartment’s entrance. The corridor that once led to several enclosed rooms was converted into storage, allowing the existing small bathroom to be expanded. The three small rooms that lined the corridor were opened up, giving the space a greater sense of openness. The addition of a large patio door further enhances the connection between the interior and the backyard and its vegetation.
